Rebuilding an old mechanical keyboard
The board arrived with three dead keys and a sticky space bar. Desoldering sixty switches is tedious rather than hard; a pump works better than wick for the old lead-free joints.
New lubricated switches changed the feel completely. The stabilizers mattered even more: a little dielectric grease removed the rattle that I had assumed was just how the board sounded.
